Title:                         Graphic Designer, Marketing

Reports to:             Director, Marketing

Job Summary:        The Graphic Designer is responsible for the design, layout, and production of print and digital products including invitations, palm cards, booklets, brochures, signage, social media graphics, and other collateral that advance organizational goals. The Graphic Designer develops designs that are legible, aesthetically pleasing, audience appropriate, and consistent with Heritage’s visual identity in the use of typography, graphics and composition.

 

Job Duties:

  • Work within framework of visual identity guidelines of both Heritage and The Daily Signal to create brand-appropriate, visually pleasing design solutions.
  • Execute design, layout, and production of print and digital products—invitations, palm cards, booklets, brochures, signage, social media graphics, and other design collateral that promote Heritage’s policy research and/or support organizational goals.
  • Contribute to discussions to focus and translate organizational needs and ensure approaches that are appropriate for brand and audiences are explored for each creative project.
  • Find or create appropriate art (photos, illustrations, other graphics) for design projects, heritage.org and dailysignal.com.
  • Prepare files for print vendors and/or for digital dissemination, review technical aspects of publication designs, draft specifications for printing, sign off on vendor proofs and printing specifications, and help manage hard proofs for projects with remote designers.
  • Maintain standards of quality, legibility, and aesthetics in all design materials.
  • Performs other, related duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

Education:                   Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or related field

Experience:                 2-4 years of experience in graphic or visual design;
in-house agency experience a plus

Communication:          Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

Technology:                Macintosh; Microsoft Suite; Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat); knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and trends

  • Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, and the department's goals and objectives.
  • Promote policies consistent with Heritage’s priorities; speak with one voice.
  • Proficiency in design, able to clearly articulate design rationale and brand appropriateness.
  • Understand the brand identity of The Heritage Foundation and The Daily Signal and know how to apply it.
  • Thoughtful receiver of constructive critique; ability to objectively process feedback to effectively evolve conversations and designs.
  • Highly organized and disciplined, can pace work to meet all agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Close attention to design aesthetics and details.
  • Understanding of print production.

The salary range for this role is $65,000 - $75,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate, and the final salary offered to a selected candidate depends on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, and other qualifications; internal and external market pay for comparable jobs; and level of hire based on aforementioned qualifications.
