Title: Communications Fellow, Media and Public Relations
Reports to: Director, Media and Public Relations
Job Summary: The Communications Fellowship is a year-long training program focused on managing and producing compelling written and verbal content across multiple media platforms. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable in a fast-paced, high-level environment. This is a one-year, full-time fellowship.
Job Duties:
- Assist with day-to-day operations of the Media and Public Relations team, including maintaining press lists, supervising media clipping and reports, managing projects, and conducting research.
- Manage Heritage’s press lists and databases of TV and print mentions.
- Clip TV appearances by Heritage experts and manage their distribution to the Communications, Development, and relevant policy departments.
- Assist the Director and Assistant Director in creating weekly, quarterly, and annual reports on Heritage’s media presence.
- Research and propose new communications ideas, strategies, and best practices to ensure the department is innovative and operating efficiently and effectively.
- Under the supervision of the Director, write, edit, and post communications content, including talking points, press releases, statements, messaging documents, and media pitches for distribution internally and externally.
- Support the department’s media training program, as needed.
Qualifications:
Education: Progress towards bachelor's degree
Experience: Past public relations or journalism internships preferred
Communication: Excellent verbal, writing, and editing skills
Technology: Microsoft Suite; Meltwater experience a plus

Benefits and Salary:
The salary for this role is $50,000 annually. As a temporary position, this role is eligible for some of The Heritage Foundation’s benefits package, including "take what you need" PTO and sick leave.
