Title: Legislative Clerk, Asian Studies Center
Reports to: Director, Asian Studies Center
Job Summary: The Legislative Clerk is responsible for performing timely legal research and analysis relating to state legislative efforts to counter the threat of Communist China. This position supports the Asian Studies Center in crafting model legislation on issues involving the People’s Republic of China (PRC), other geopolitical and national security issues in the Indo-Pacific, and associated American interests. This is a part-time, temporary position.
Job Duties:
- Support ongoing Asian Studies Center work to assist state legislators in developing and refining policies towards China.
- Perform research on initiatives in and litigation of state legislatures regarding China.
- Provide analysis on Constitutional and federalist issues regarding state legislation on China.
- Contribute to the development of policy recommendations and model legislation.
Qualifications:
Education: Current law student preferred
Experience: Prior public policy experience preferred
Technology: Microsoft Suite; electronic court filing (PACER) and legal research (WestLaw); familiarity with state legislative websites and documents
Communication: Excellent writing, presentation, and public speaking skills
