Title:                   Administrative Assistant, Simon Center

Reports to:      Director, B. Kenneth Simon Center for Principles and Politics

Job Summary:  The Administrative Assistant is responsible for all administrative, programmatic, and clerical support of the B. Kenneth Simon Center for Principles and Politics (CPP).  This includes (1) managing the senior staff’s schedule, organizing travel, and handling expense reports; (2) assisting with the planning and execution of CPP programs and events; (3) and ensuring that the entire office is well organized, adequately resourced, and prepared to carry out its daily tasks. 


Job Duties:

  • Administrative support for the senior staff: travel arrangements, scheduling, correspondence, expense reports, keeping calendars, quarterly reports, and special projects.
  • Assist the Director by tracking and anticipating deadlines and requests from other departments
  • Planning and execution of CPP sponsored events: arranging venues, invitations, basic marketing, mailing lists, menus etc.
  • General support for CPP: subscription maintenance, maintaining department files and lists, ordering office supplies.
  • Manage the budget and track all CPP expenditures.
  • Keep track of all of CPP’s output and impact.
  • Work with Policy Services in executing educational programs on the Hill.

Skill Factors:

Education:             Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:           1 - 2 years of relevant experience

Communication:    Clear writer and good editor.

Computers:            Microsoft Office; internet skills; good understanding of Outlook or other scheduling and planning software; excellent typing and word processing skills; database experience helpful


Special Skills/Requirements:  

  • Must be highly organized with the ability to maintain careful attention to detail, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and follow through in a timely manner

  • Willingness to take direction and work with others in a team, but able to work independently
  • Basic knowledge of and interest in American politics and conservatism
  • Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, and CPP’s goals and objectives.
