Title:                         Government Relations Assistant

Reports to:             Director, Congressional Relations

Job Summary:          The Government Relations Assistant is responsible for all the operational and logistical aspects of the Government Relations team. Plan and execute Congressional events. Track engagement with the Congressional audience. Perform administrative duties for the Vice President, Government Relations. Responsible for the promotion of the Institute for Economic Freedom.  

Job Duties:

  • Track all engagement, throughout the Heritage Foundation, will Members of Congress, Administrative officials, and staff.
  • Schedule regular internal and external meetings with Members of Congress, Administrative officials, and staff. This includes ensuring proper location, catering, invitations, and RSVPs.
  • Book travel, schedule meetings, and respond to requests on behalf of the Vice President for Government Relations.
  • Monitor the output of the Institute for Economic Freedom and promote that content, in coordination with the Department’s strategic direction.
  • Contribute to the discussion of issues related to Economic Freedom by providing insight from Capitol Hill to the GR team and the Research team.
  • Produce weekly emails for the Government Relations department.
  • Communicate Heritage policy positions on Capitol Hill and in coalition meetings.

Qualifications:

Education:                   B.A.

Experience:                 At least one year of relevant experience and knowledge of Capitol Hill

Communication:         Skilled writer

Technology:                Advanced MS Office and Outlook; Database management and social

media

Other Requirements:  

  • Understand and support the Heritage mission and vision for America, True North conservative principles and the department's goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of and ability to articulate Heritage policy positions.
  • Confident and motivated self-starter with the ability to balance multiple projects at once.
  • Innovative thinker with excellent time management skills.
